Luckenbooth Collection Luckenbooth Collection Originally the heart shaped luckenbooth was given, in the 16th century, at weddings and engagements as a token of love. From the 18th century onwards they were worn to protect against evil spirits. The name comes from the locking booths or small shops, a feature of Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
Mackintosh Collection Mackintosh Collection Born in Glasgow in 1868, Charles Rennie Mackintosh trained as an architect and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. At the turn of the century he became one of the forerunners of the distinctive 'Glasgow' style of Art Nouveau. For twenty years he lived and worked as an acrhitect/designer in Glasgow where much of his best work was created and still remains. Yet he was under- appreciated during his life. These pieces are inspired by his work.
